Austin Jewish Academy students and their CANstruction Shapes for Central Texas Food Bank & Souper Bowl of Caring
Austin Jewish Academy students and their CANstruction Shapes for Central Texas Food Bank & Souper Bowl of Caring14 students in Mrs. Girardot's Algebra class at the Austin Jewish Academy became engineers and team leaders and designed a shape which they built with the help of one of the younger classes at the Austin Jewish Academy. Donations of cans and $$ were collected, the Algebra students went into the younger classes to teach students grade-level appropriate math lessons (counting and skip counting for K and 1st, multiplying and area for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and area, volume, and ratios for 5th and 6th grades. Our CANstruction Project Based Learning activity culminated with two mornings to build during the morning Math class time period. Students had a deadline, but were able to build 7 unique designs on Thursday and Friday, February 1st and 2nd, 2018. All cans will be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank, once the designs are "de-CANstructed."
