Please join together with Saint Joseph Catholic Elementary School in helping to make this year's Souper Bowl of Caring the best! Each year, around the time of the Super Bowl football game, the national Souper Bowl of Caring organization, mobilizes youth to collect dollars and cans for hunger-relief organizations in their local communities. 100% of the money they collect goes directly to the charity of their choice. This means that every donation (monetary & food) goes directly to our local charity of choice which has always been: Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah. What started out as a small food collection (around 5000 items our first year), has now turned into a major community service event! One year, we collected over 32,000 food items and 17,000 pounds of food! Students in grades 2-8 all get a chance to take a field trip to perform community service directly at the Catholic Community Services food bank. They have helped sort and organize food in the large warehouse, stocked the shelves in the food pantry, organize produce, and help decorate birthday treats and recipe cards for clients of CCS. This has helped our students make a connection to where their donations go and how they are contributing to tacking hunger in our own backyard! This year, we are also asking for students to bring in cash. The Utah Food Bank can buy more than $7 of food with just $1 of cash. This means their dollar can go a lot further in purchasing needed food!
