So, I finally am getting the chance to sit down and reflect on the Souper Bowl of Caring. Been really busy since then, so I apologize for not writing this sooner. Souper Bowl of Caring really took off at my school, which was totally unexpected. We ended up raising over $2,000! I was really proud of my school coming together like that. Hopefully next year it will be even bigger. At my church, it was also a big success. Obviously not as large as the school since we have a tiny congregation, but nonetheless still significant. I was able to make an annoucement about it the weeks leading up to it, and on the day I had my Sunday School kids do a little cheer they made up. It was adorable! While everyone was leaving, they all thanked me for all my hard work and told me how this is truly making a difference. This was an amazing experience, and really opened my eyes to how we can change the world, one small step at a time. We are one our hunger & poverty unit in theology class right now, and I seem to be the only one who is standing up for the homeless. A bunch of kids are just saying that it is their choice to be homeless. Hopefully I am opening up their eyes to see that it is not a choice. I think the Souper Bowl of Caring really shows people that homelessness is an epidemic that affects everyone, and there are ways that we can stop it. I would like to thank everyone at SBoC and on the NYAB for helping and being such an inspiration. Y'all truly amaze me. =)
