My name is Brady, and it was great to serve as a Local Youth Advisory Board member of my city, Houston. Attending training at the Houston Food Bank, I learned a lot about how many are in need of food and how kids like me can help the cause to tackle hunger. The Kick-Off event right before the Super Bowl was really fun. Early in the morning at the Boy Scouts Building, many important groups such as the Mayor's Youth Council, which I am also a member of, and local grocery store managers and other groups came together to kick off food collection drives all over our city. I volunteered at a local grocery store, Kroger, and got many shoppers to stop and buy bags to donate, and finally during all of those weeks I held my own canned food drive with the help of some of my mom's students that she tutors, and we collected 112 cans and nonperishables to donate to Braes Interfaith Ministries, a local pantry which will give the food to people who live very close to where I live. It was very worthwhile and fun to be a part of SBC this year, and I hope to make an even stronger impact next year.
