  • Jif vs. Skippy vs. Peter Pan
This year's Souper Bowl of Caring pitted three types of peanut butter against each other. We had Team Jif (middle schoolers), Team Skippy (high schoolers), and Team Peter Pan (adult leaders who refuse to grow up). Through most of the month, Team Peter Pan had a commanding lead as announcements were only being made by the adults to the congregation. But Team Jif and Team Skippy decided to put all of their efforts towards defeating Team Peter Pan even if it meant one of them would lose. Two…

  • Still remembering why we are here.
We are still that small and now very gray church in a remote corner of Washington State, but ever year we continue to collect for our Souper Bowl. This year we had generous people again remember the poverty in our communities and how we are so blessed. And blessings to all who remember it shouldn't be just one day a year... Pastor Tara

  • Two Ways to Donate
We had soup kettles in the sanctuary for donations at the end of the service and in the vestry during Coffee Time. We collected a total of $134 in these kettles and that amount was donated to Footprints Food Pantry that serves both Kittery and the next town Eliot.
A second way to help was to purchase our Super Bowl Subs. After Coffee Time, we went to work, filling orders for the Super Bowl sub meals. Each meal included a sub sandwich, a small bag of chips, a brownie, a peppermint and…

  • Big collection from our little country church
We are a small country church with around 20-25 folks who attend each week. We had participated in years past and then our dear pastor of 35+ years passed away in 2014. We had not participated in the past 3 years while we went through interim pastors and a small attendance. The Lord sent us a wonderful pastor and his lovely wife in the end of 2017 so we thought we would try the 'Souper Bowl of Caring' this year.
We took a big soup pot and set it on our coffee and snack table. Folks brought…

  • Souper Bowl Sunday 2019
The Souper Bowl was a blowout at Zion Lutheran Church in Glen Rock PA! The score was 57 Rams vs. 24 Patriots. We went with the underdog. As we now know, "our team" didn't win but a good time was had by all and we collected 81 items for our local food pantry. On a sad note: the pantry had a pipe burst when the "polar vortex" came through and many items were lost. We will have more collections to help them recover from all of the damage done. Please keep our pantry in your prayers as…

  • Students Organize Food Drive for UT Pantry
Ottawa Hills first-grader Nathaniel Hollie and sixth-graders Olivia Bridges and Israel Hollie have organized a food drive, and they need our help. The drive is to help University of Toledo students who have difficulty affording food. Students can go to the food pantry once a week and obtain food and toiletries (soap, shampoo, socks, etc.). The pantry gives students one less thing to worry about so they can focus on studying. A bin for donations is at the main entrance of the elementary school…

Representing several Toledo area school districts, including Springfield, Ottawa Hills, and Sylvania schools, the children of the Toledo Chapter of Jack and Jill of America participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring by conducting food drives at their respective schools. Children created awareness of the food drive by making signs, talking on their morning announcements, and writing articles for school newsletters. Bins were put out at each school and 617 items were collected in total. The…

  • Super Souper Bowl Sunday
At the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon, Mo. we celebrate Souper Bowl Sunday a week early. After church services we gather in the Fellowship Hall for home made soups, salads, and desserts. We use this special Sunday as a time to donate items needed at our church such as paper products and soap for the kitchen and bathrooms. People also bring food items to be donated to the local food pantry. It's a great time of fellowship and to think of others less fortunate. Thank you Souper Bowl…

  • Delicious Soup Lunch
The previous week it was so chilly in New York State that our worship service was cancelled. The pastor was a bit worried about how the Souper Bowl of Caring after-worship lunch would come across without a reminder the week before.

In any case, the event turned out well. During a weekly women's Bible study, some of the women involved planned out what they would do, and, in the end, we were able to enjoy a delicious soup lunch after our worship service on the last Sunday of January. We had…

  • Food Drive was a success!
We donated over 15 boxes of food to the St. Theresa's Catholic Church this year. It was our first time giving to this charity and it was a great event. All grade levels from Pre-K to 5th were involved in the donations. Our 5th graders were the ones who came daily to box up that day's supplies and keep our donation table neat and tidy.

    The students loved doing this.

  • Food Bank's After School Meals Help Central Texas Families
When Luis and his sister Evolet are side by side, it's hard to tell who is older. But six-year old Luis makes it clear that he is the oldest sibling--even if it's just by one minute. Luis points out that Evolet is his little sister.

The fraternal twins like to play and have fun. At school, they are both in the same classroom, but sit at different tables. As first graders, they're excited to be reading books.

After school, the siblings head to the YMCA Learning Center located onsite at…

  • Dove's Diner skit part two!
I updated the script and added a former homeless customer who came with his friend to give back for all the help he had received when he was homeless. The diner owner joked that they had gone vegan and their was no beef chilli this year! It was just a joke! They both promise to come back next year and bring more friends. The story will continue next year!

  • The Alternative "Third" Soup Bowl Option
Being so close to New Orleans, many in the congregation were disappointed in the final two teams for Souper Bowl 2019. We didn't want the giving to our area food bank to suffer from lack of excitement for the game so we created a third option -- the "I Don't Care (should have been Saints) Bowl". Here's how the tally came out: $78 for the Los Angeles Rams -- $80 for the "I Don't Care" Bowl -- $82 for the New England Patriots. Amazing! We're pretty sure the giving would have been less without…

  • Soup Pots following worship services
2 large soup pots are placed in the rear of the worship space. Worshippers are encouraged to place a second offering at the end of worship in one of the soup pots. Each pot is labeled with each team. Members are asked to give in the pot of the team that they think will win. This year's results Rams $88 and Patriots $42. $130 total for 3 worship services. Our gift goes to our local large soup kitchen program called Opportunity House located in Reading, PA. Congregational members serve the…

  • Initial participation in the Souper Bowl of Giving
We have participated, informally, for many years, bringing food items and money on the first Sunday of February. After seeing the website this year, I decided to formally register our church in the Souper Bowl of Giving. We have always donated our money and items to the South East Louisa County Food Bank in Wapello. Our youth are active during the year, collecting money and food for the homeless and domestic shelters in our surrounding counties.
