Service Blitz

Service Blitz Steps

  1. Research and Select

Have the youth research charities in your community that serve the hungry, homeless, and needy, so that they can choose the right recipient for their collections AND their service. Leave the decision up to your youth, but encourage them to consider addressing an issue that affects them personally or has the greatest impact on their community.

  2. Contact and Organize

Contact the charity your youth have selected and inform them of your desire to donate both time and money to them on the weekend of the big game. Schedule a day of service the Saturday before the Super Bowl and get your youth signed up to serve. Discuss the Service Blitz with the charity’s director, deciding on an appropriate workload for your group and assigning tasks and responsibilities for the day.

  3. Serve and Discover

Start the day with an introduction or presentation by a charity representative so your youth can learn about the organization, the facility, and the population it serves. Work a couple of hours or for a whole day at the charity, depending on your group and the amount of labor available, and be sure to bring a lunch or snack, if necessary. Throughout the day, the youth can begin to grasp the need present in their own community and see for themselves all the ways they can help serve people in need.

  4. Reflect and Present

Lead a discussion (hyperlink to suggested prompts and questions) of the group’s experience serving at the charity. Ask that the youth share their emotions about the exciting and inspiring moments of the day, as well as the challenges. Gather pictures, record highlights, and prepare a presentation for collection day. This way, potential donors can see who their money and cans will benefit and will be more excited about giving, knowing that they have helped both charities and the youth themselves, who have reflected on and grown from the experience.

  5. Report and Share

Visit the Souper Bowl of Caring website to report where you volunteered for the Service Blitz and how many youth were involved. If you collected dollars and cans the day after the blitz, report these totals, as well. Then, share pictures and stories with us by uploading them to our website. Please take the time to report and share your memories, so participants can see how their service efforts combined with others like yours add up to make a big impact across the nation.
