National Community Catalysts Board

The Souper Bowl of Caring wants to launch a Community Catalysts Board of leaders who serve as SBOC emissaries in your respective communities. This group would include people from diverse regions and perspectives. Primary training will take place at an in-person Catalysts Conference with subsequent communication by email and conference calls throughout the eighteen month term of the Board.

WHAT?

A group of people that:

  • Mobilizes members of your community to touch lives and teach youth through SBOC
  • Raises awareness of, and resources for, the fight against hunger
  • Engages young people in experiential learning
  • Learns about hunger and poverty
  • Gains experience in grassroots organizing
  • Works effectively with the media
  • Advocates for SBOC within your sphere of influence
  • Serves as official Souper Bowl of Caring spokespersons
  • Shares ideas and input with the SBOC

The Catalysts Conference will contain interactive presentations, lectures, breakout sessions and team building. Presenters will include invited authorities on hunger & poverty, youth development and grassroots organizing as well as SBOC staff.

Fall 2008 with tentative dates of Sunday, September 14-Tuesday, September 16, 2008

WHO MAY APPLY?

People who meet the following criteria:

  • The vision of seeing Super Bowl weekend becoming a time of unprecedented giving and serving resonates with you
  • You are willing to attend the full Conference (barring extraordinary circumstances)
  • You are willing to conduct at least forty hours of community mobilization during the five months following the conference
  • You agree to be an active member of the Community Catalysts Board, checking email and participating in conference calls as appropriate
  • You are age 21 or above

COST?

Souper Bowl of Caring will pay your conference costs including program, lodging and meals.

You will pay your travel expenses, including airfare and ground transportation. A very limited number of travel scholarships are available for people with low incomes who cannot afford travel expenses. If you require a travel scholarship, please send a letter of request.

HOW TO APPLY?

Please send a letter including the following:

  • Name, address and contact information
  • Paragraphs describing:
    1. Your involvement with SBOC
    2. Your work with young people and/or work with hunger
    3. Why you are interested in the SBOC
    4. What skills, experiences, passion you offer
  • References. Names and contact information for three people who can speak to your qualifications and commitment
