Local Youth Advisory Board member Olivia Williams recognizes the value of year-round partnerships and relationships with local organizations. For more than a year, Olivia has been heavily involved in the work of the Brazos Valley Food Bank, a hunger-relief organization serving six counties in the Brazos Valley. It was through this relationship that Olivia was nominated and accepted into the Local Youth Advisory Board program.
Through Olivia's role on the Local Youth Advisory Board, she planned and implemented the first-ever Brazos Valley Service Blitz: a morning of service open to the community to increase donations to the Brazos Valley Food Bank. On an early Saturday morning a week before the Big Game, Olivia and her family hosted 75 volunteers at the food bank. First, the team gathered for a brief overview of Souper Bowl of Caring and later tackled several service projects. Olivia recruited local students, many from her participation in the Brazos County 4H Club.
A third of the group stayed in the food bank warehouse, packing meals for home-bound senior citizens, while another third of the service group volunteered at their local H-E-B or Kroger to invite customers to donate in store. The rest of the group blanketed local neighborhoods with paper bags and flyers, alerting neighbors to donate non-perishable food items that would be picked up the following Saturday. Olivia coordinated this initiative with local Boy Scouts, who on the same day completed the Scouting for Food project with thousands of Boys Scouts - Sam Houston Area Council.

The morning energy was incredible at the Service Blitz, and the results were outstanding. Olivia's collection and day of service generated 1,200 pounds of food for the Brazos Valley Food Bank, in addition to cultivating new relationships in the community.
Because of Olivia's commitment to Souper Bowl of Caring and her work as an ambassador, the Brazos Valley community has taken a unique ownership of Souper Bowl of Caring and the work to empower young people and tackle hunger. Be on the lookout for the work of the Brazos Valley community in Souper Bowl of Caring seasons to come!
