Finding a place to giveGlancing at someone's Facebook feed is all you need to do to realize there are a lot of great causes to support. The internet has expanded the access the average person has to nonprofits on a global scale. It can feel overwhelming where to even start. Thankfully there are also some great online tools for finding the right charity for you. Sites like Charity Navigator seek to rank charities based on a number of criteria. Use their filters to find a charity to give you the most meaningful giving experience. Souper Bowl of Caring has our own Charity Database based on where our participants have given in previous years. If you don't see your favorite charity in there, be sure to add them!
Holding a CollectionWhen Souper Bowl of Caring first started, collecting meant simply holding soup pots at the back of a church as people exited. While there are still plenty of folks making great use of this technique, the "typical" collection has expanded to involve school districts, local businesses, grocery stores... and now even online. Working with YouGiveGoods, participants can hold a collection entirely online. Donors can follow the link to the collection and purchase food items directly from the website. YouGiveGoods will handle delivering the donation to the charity of your choice. It's a great way to make a difference if you're not planning on attending an event for Super Bowl Sunday. If you're already planning a physical collection, it can still be a great way to add additional totals to your group's collection.
Inspiring othersPerhaps more than anything, this connected age we live in has made it easier to connect with those around us. We have the tools we need to reach out and inspire others to support the causes we value most, it's just up to us to do the work! Pick a social media platform - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat - and start connecting with your friends about your passion. You can share your Souper Bowl of Caring Collection, or a link directly to your charity's website. Share, Like, and Retweet the posts by your charity to help spread their message. (Also be sure to visit us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube!)
