Souper Bowl of Caring is excited and honored to team up with Houston Texans Guard #79 Jeff Allen, along with his wife, Marissa Allen, who organizes the blog First & Full.
Jeff and Marissa are huge "foodies" and have already made their way through many Houston restaurants since they arrived earlier this year with their 18-month baby girl, Joy. At a Souper Bowl of Caring photoshoot in early November, Jeff shared some of his favorites places to dine in the Houston area.
Jeff and Marissa are not only passionate about eating good food, but also passionate about making sure others are fed. Marissa shared a story about Jeff's childhood, describing some of his days as days he did not know where he would find his next meal. Jeff understood this to be normal, yet Marissa described his struggle as food insecurity, an unfortunate reality for 15.8 million American households.
One memory Jeff Allen will never forget, is the day he ate his first steak. Marissa believes that meal inspired Jeff to work hard, so he could enjoy more meals like that one later on in his life. And Jeff did work hard. Because of his drive and self-motivation, this year Jeff celebrates his fifth season in the National Football League.
Jeff and Marissa seek to inspire and feed one deserving greater Hosuton area classroom to also spark drive and self-motivation in students. The Allens have provided this opportunity to classrooms in the past in Missouri, when Jeff was playing for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Now, as Houston Texans, the Allens serve with Souper Bowl of Caring as local ambassadors in the greater Houston area. Community members are invited to nominate a local classroom who would be inspired by a meal and experience sponsored by the Allens.
Nominations must be at least 250 words and submitted to our website by 11:59pm on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5, 2017. The Selection Committee will be in touch with the nominator and winning classroom by Noon on Monday, February 20, 2017.
