On November 1, 2016, Souper Bowl of Caring hosted the third annual Tackle Hunger Luncheon. The event was to help raise money for Souper Bowl of Caring and present Sysco with the Tackle Hunger Humanitarian Award. This award recognizes an individual or company for its dedication and commitment to fighting hunger.
Johnny Bravo served as the emcee and auctioneer. The program included an invocation by Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell of Windsor Village United Methodist Church, a video highlighting Sysco's work with hunger, and both a live and silent auction. Event Chair Dr. Judith Craven expressed gratitude for our event sponsors and guests, Souper Bowl of Caring CEO Clara Cooper shared testimonies of how their support would benefit the organization, and National Youth Advisory Board member Alex Hernandez inspired with how she encouraged other youth to join the movement. Entertainment was provided by Julie Songbird.
Major sponsors included Phillips Family Foundation, Dr. Judith Craven, Sysco, The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, H-E-B, Kroger and Randalls. Attendees included many of Souper Bowl of Caring supporters including businesses, school officials, and church leaders. There were youth from the National Youth Advisory Board and Houston Local Youth Advisory Board. Houston Texans offensive guard Jeff Allen and wife Marissa were there to show their support. There were also representatives from local charities supported through Souper Bowl of Caring collections, including the Houston Food Bank and Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston.
Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored a table, bid on an auction item, or simply made your presence felt by attending. You have helped ensure Souper Bowl of Caring can continue to empower young people and unite communities to make a difference in the fight against hunger and poverty. Thank you to all the sponsors and the hardworking event committee who made this possible.
