Thank you for participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement. We are excited to see what you will do this season.
How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring?I participated in another church that I had pastured.
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team?To raise funds and food items for Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry, our local pantry.
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? After signing up online, we used the tie-in theme of the Super Bowl and decorated the sanctuary like a football field. Each "yardage line" down the main aisle represented the cans collected. Our goal was to get a touchdown, which meant that we collected 300 cans. We surpassed that goal and scored 2 touchdowns, for a total of 611 cans of soup!
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items? The use of collected soup cans as visuals and the creative imagination of our coordinator, Judy Reales, helped the congregation see how close we were each week to reaching our goal.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share?Judy had the food pantry coordinator, Dawn Ruge, come to the church to receive all of the cans of soup!
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.All items went to the Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry, a community outreach that serves almost 9,000 individual households in the Porter County area each year. It is located in the Duneland Resale Shop building (800 W. Broadway, Chesterton, IN).
Are there any resources you feel Souper Bowl of Caring could develop to enhance your collection?Certificates and publicity
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group?Participants displayed discipleship and pride as they exceeded their original goal and the success of being able to help others in need.
What does it mean to you?We want to do as well, if not better, next year and we hope to do a friendly church to church challenge.
