Your Name: Aaron Williams
Location: Louisville, Kentucky
NYAB Term(s): 2008-2009
Update us! What has happened to you since you last served on the NYAB?It's difficult to believe how many years have passed since the conclusion of my term on the NYAB. In many ways, it feels like my time on the Board was very recent; in reality, nearly a decade has come and gone. Since my time on the NYAB, I've graduated college (2013) and law school (only weeks ago as of this writing), and now I'm preparing to begin my life as a practicing attorney.
What are you doing now?Currently, I'm hunkered down in my law school's library facing a stack of books that stands chest-high. The Bar Exam looms large.
How would you say serving on the NYAB influenced your life? The NYAB helped instill in me a commitment to serving others. Public service is of tremendous importance both in law school and in the legal profession. Many law schools, mine included, mandate a certain number of public service hours prior to graduation. I doubled the number of hours my school required. The NYAB definitely helped prepare me for my academic career and professional life.
Anything you would like to tell future NYAB members?Make the most of your time at the meetings. You'll be working with outstanding people for a noble cause. When your time on the NYAB ends, you'll have fond memories and the knowledge that you helped make a difference.
Final thoughts?Best of luck to the incoming NYAB members! I hope you all enjoy yourselves as much as I did.
