How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring?Through a district-wide participation four years ago
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team? Our school culture is one of service and giving. The Souper Bowl team is a natural fit for our belief that all people deserve respect and quality of life.
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? We hold an annual challenge between the grade-level classes and the faculty. The competition is stiff for earning the bragging rights of being the Souper Stars for that year.
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items?Fostering a spirit of giving in the school culture is the most important factor, but the fun competition drives the enthusiasm. Our learners look forward to this each year.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share? One thing that moved me most was that during the last week of the challenge, even though we'd already collected about 2000 items by that time, the seniors decided they wanted graduate with a record number of food items collected by the school. Therefore, they used their own debit cards to go to the local stores and buy carloads of food. When they did this, the underclassmen asked their parents for help, and by the last day we had cars in our drop-off lane with their trunks full of food to donate.
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.We donate the food to Christian Community Action (CCA). They not only have a community food bank, but they also provide opportunities to provide support and training for people to get back on their feet.
Are there any resources you feel Souper Bowl of Caring could develop to enhance your collection?I think you do a fantastic job! Thank you for existing!
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? This has become anannual activity that our learners look forward to each year. The teens and staff believe all people should have the opportunity to have healthy, nutritious meals.
What does it mean to you?I have a passion for helping teens develop empathy for people and I aspire to assist the to see that everyone deserves respect and dignity. Being able to have access to nutritious food is one of the foundations for achieving that.
