How did you hear of Souper Bowl of Caring?I came across the Souper Bowl of Caring while searching the internet on ideas about feeding the hungry within the community.
Why did you choose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team?I chose to join the Souper Bowl of Caring team because I felt it was a great project that was unique for me and my youth group at church.
What does your group do to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring movement? The Sunday before the Super Bowl we have dress down Sunday where everyone wear their favorite football team apparel. We collect monetary donations in a crockpot with the Souper Bowl of Caring logo, collect food items, and sell consession stand items where the proceeds go to the Souper Bowl of Caring.
What have you found is most successful for raising cash and food items? This year we added the "Ultimate Fan Award." This certificate goes to the best dressed and creative fan. The youth of the church vote on who gets the award. This added twist and actually contributed to an increase in participation and donations.
Was there any particularly meaningful or moving story from your collection you would like to share? The next day once I arrived at work a coworker of mine saw the pictures and posting of our event on social media. She said the posts warmed her heart and she had to donate because she know how it feels to go without.
Tell us a little about where you donate your collection to.This year we split our donations three ways. We gave to The Up Center and the Food Bank of South Hampton Roads both located in Norfolk, Virginia. The third place was Lending Hands an independent organization who's purpose is to solely assist the homeless in South Hampton Roads.
Are there any resources you feel Souper Bowl of Caring could develop to enhance your collection?I think a brochure would be a great resource to get the word out about Souper Bowl of Caring. Also if the Souper Bowl of Caring could do preseason projects or playoff projects to make it even more interesting and fun.
What does participating in Souper Bowl of Caring mean to your group? The Souper Bowl of Caring project means so much to my youth group because it makes them feel they have accomplished something big and made a difference in someone's life. It also has been beneficial in the children working on other projects to help in community.
What does it mean to you? This project is so special to me because I feel God placed in here to be a blessing to others where there is a need. This is my passion so projects like this gives me the opportunity to strive even more to do kingdom work.
